Death Culture is a nonfiction book series for russian publisher MIF, exploring how different cultures understand death, the afterlife, rituals, and the world of the dead.The visual concept combines a unified typographic structure with distinctive illustrations by artist Selcha Uni, whose dark, fantastical imagery gives each book its own characters while keeping the series visually coherent. The covers are built around a deliberately slightly asymmetric composition, allowing the illustrations to interact freely with the typography rather than following a rigid grid. A restrained layout and carefully selected color accents, including colored foil, create a balance between the dark subject matter and the vivid, almost magical quality of Selcha Uni’s artwork. The result is a flexible series identity that connects different cultures and subjects through a consistent visual language while allowing each individual book to remain distinctive.
